Discussion:
cheap hotels before and after the conference

Hi All,

I was wondering if anybody has already booked rooms for periods
before and after the conference? Since this is a very very very long
flight for me, I wish to extend my stay. Do we have anything on the
wiki for that? I am going to try and check the procedure to extend
nights at the regency but my guess it is going to be very expensive

If folk are arranging for trips or so around the areas, it'd be nice
to know if you are willing to be joined by more folks with the same
interest.

Thanks,

-Sivan

Having spoken to Brian, it should just be a case of ensuring your reservation covers more than 4 nights. For sponsored participants, the MeeGo Project will settle the first part of the bill, with the rest being you (and your roommate's) responsibility.

The rate in the Hyatt is ~$170 per person per night. I don't know if this is a discounted rate and, if it is, how many more nights can be had at this rate.

This would imply that if your roommate isn't spending the same nights in the hotel, the nights on your own will be twice as expensive. Something to bear in mind whilst finding a roommate.

HTH,

Andrew

Indeed, the stated price on the conference web page says '136$' per
night for the cheapest room they have. My hunch is that it will be
hard to find a roomate that will want to stay the same dates as you to
reduce costs, but we'll wait for the roomate lists.

Good points, Sivan and Andrew. I'll get the roomate wiki page up on
Monday, and include a way to indicate if people want to stay early or
late. Perhaps the easiest thing to do have a separate list for Thursday
night onward, as roommates may need to shift.

I will also call the hotel and ask what the rates would be before and
after, in case they can't extend the conference rate, and note it on the
wiki page.

Also, if the dates of the wamup are set already, it'd be nice to have
them stated at the warmup wiki section, it currently lacks the dates.

Hi Sivan,

The dates have been set since the conference dates were set: it is the
Saturday & Sunday before the conference (the conference warm-up, get
it?). I've made this explicit now.

Cheers,
Dave.

The wiki page lacks the dates so I went baffled looking for the dates :)

Thanks!

Brian, did this page get created? A few people are asking about
sorting roommates, and obviously the rates are an important part of
whether or not people are going to stay at the Hyatt for another night
or two.

Thanks in advance,

Andrew
