Communities Infra and initiatives

Hello Guys,

I'm helping Meego through the il10n project, translating and
coordinating the pt_BR translation team.

I've decide to improve my help creating a local community/project to
invite more Brazilians and people interested to use and help Meego to grow.

I'm registering a new domain to create a local portal with translated
info about Meego, Meego Projects and how to help and join us.

So, we will need initially 2 mail lists, I would like to use the
official infra to keep the group not linked only to personal efforts and
resources.

I can create it in my infra, but the Meego official infra is the best
one IMHO.

1- for the Brazilian Portuguese translation team

meego-il10n-***@meego [MeeGo-il10n-pt_BR]

2 - for the people interested to join, use , spread and discuss about
Meego in Brasil

meego-community-***@meego [MeeGo-community-br]

I think we can use that pattern for the next/new communities changing
only the -pt_BR and -br by the other languages/countries.

That can help local communities to organize and create
local groups/teams.

I think we can use that pattern for the next/new communities changing
only the -pt_BR and -br by the other languages/countries.
We've discussed this before, and we just don't have the resources
to maintain new mailing lists for each language. This could turn into
hundreds of new mailing lists pretty quickly, and each of those would
require maintenance and oversight from time to time. It would be a huge
burden on the project, and we just don't have enough administration
resources to do it.

I recommend talking to Margie Foster and Dimitris Glezos to see what
other options are available through Transifex.

Thanks,
Dawn

Also, there are loads of places where you could potentially house such a
list with little or no overhead. I have half a dozen lists on Google
Groups for various events & user groups, all work well. And as you said,
you could also host it on your infrastructure.

There is also a third option - which is to align with an existing pt_BR
translation group, and create a MeeGo group there (rather than creating
a pt_BR group in MeeGo) - it makes a little more sense in my mind to
group more projects under one language than it does to group many
languages under one project.

It really is great to see l10n communities organising themselves - I
hope we can figure out how to enable & encourage it!

Cheers,
Dave.

And I add a very enthusiastic amen to this as well! One of the items on the Transifex roadmap is a better way to organize and grow our l10n communities. Our goal is to encourage this type of organization, communication, and recognition within Transifex itself.

Ok Guys,

Since I'm registering a new domain, I will create our lists and all
infra there.

But since the project is growing and the local communities too, I think
that is important to think about it and to expand the meego infra.

One good approach is to create a SIG for that, so people can help to
manage and maintain the Meego's infra.

Best regards

Hi,

Ok Guys,
Since I'm registering a new domain, I will create our lists and all
infra there.
Here's some info about the naming policy etc.

http://wiki.meego.com/Local_MeeGo_Networks/How_To_Get_Started

For your information too, we have started building ragional/national infra
and community around Dec 2010. Perhaps we could share experiences with you.
It takes a lot more to get community running than just create mailing lists.
If you are coming to SF,I will hold a session about building national
communities. (
http://sf2011.meego.com/program/sessions/building-regional-meego-community-%E2%80%93-case-meego-network-finland).
A lot our experiences are written in my blog: http://meego.ajatukseni.net/

my 2 cents,
